One of the main problems in teaching and researching the history of Mathematics consists in the difficulty in gaining access to original works by mathematicians of centuries past. Very few authors - usually only the most important - have been published in modern times. In most cases it's necessary to turn to old editions, which are only available in a few libraries.
This situation is especially annoying in towns without major libraries, where even the production of a degree thesis in the history of Mathematics is delayed by the often lengthy procedures necessary to obtain photocopies or microfilms of the works. Even in larger urban centres access to old volumes is subjected to checks and limitations.
