In our exhibit, which consists of a pair of conjoined cones, conic sections can be observed by varying the inclination of the double cone with the special handle. When its axis is perpendicular to the ground, the free surface of the liquid in the upper cone forms a circle. If we start to tip the axis of the cone in relation to the perpendicular, the free surface of the liquid forms an ellipse and subsequently - by raising the inclination - a parabola, when the plane determined by the surface that delimits the liquid is parallel to one of the infinite lines marking the cone (generatrix). By further tilting the axis of the double cone, the two branches of the hyperbola can be observed.
